About Me

Mark D. Fode: I am a longtime journalist who was involved in being a newspaper editor/photographer for more than 35 years. I retired from full-time work in 2007. I have enjoyed writing, particularly about people and sports, and photography, and am a seven-time Minnesota Better Newspaper Contest winner. I was also inducted into the Pipestone-Jasper Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. I am married. My wife Darcel and I have three children, Desirae, Christian and Tonya, all either completed with college or in college now. We lived most of our life in Pipestone, Minnesota before moving to Colorado in 2009. I graduated from Huron High School in Huron, S.D. in 1970 and attended Huron College, also in Huron, S.D. until entering the U.S. Army in 1972. I served at Fort Dix, N.J., Fort Monmouth, N.J., Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Ind., Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Auroro, Colo. I was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1977 and am a member of the Disabled Veterans of America. I was a photojournalist in the military, and was a sports editor in Huron, S.D. in 1972, beginning my career in the late 1960s.
